First Tooth + First Visit = Zero Cavities
The American Academy of Pediatric Dentistry recommends a child's first dental visit is before 12 months of age, or within 6 months of the appearance of the first baby tooth. First visits for children under 24 months are free at Coastal Kids Dental & Braces. Visiting a pediatric dentist by the time the first baby tooth comes in sets your child up for a lifetime of healthy dental habits and preventive care. Just remember, 1 tooth + 1 visit = 0 cavities.
It's Nice to Meet You!
Many times, first visits are nothing more than a chance to introduce your child to the dentist. Sometimes new places can make kids nervous and uncooperative - that's okay. We understand kids and will take all the time and tenderness they need to develop a solid relationship. We may suggest scheduling short, successive visits to help build your child's trust and comfort in the long run. Patience, calmness and reassurance that the dentist is a positive part of growing up will help your kids feel comfortable and confident. We stay away from the words 'hurt, shot, pull, scary, x-ray, needle', and suggest you do too.
First appointments should be scheduled earlier in the day, when your child is alert and fresh. Depending on a child's age and comfort level, a parent might be asked to wait in the reception area or sit in the dental exam chair during the appointment.
